The entrance to Machu Picchu is the only document that allows entry to the Wonder of the World. Only authorized agencies can offer this service. All tickets have to be validated by the Ministry of Culture of Peru. It must be printed the full names, the type of document or passport with your number and other information.
1) Check the validity of the ticket on the official page of the Ministry of Culture of Peru
a) Check the ticket code:
To verify if the Machu Picchu ticket is valid, you can certify if the ticket code is on the official page of the Ministry of Culture of Peru.
This code is unique and is also in the form of a bar code. On the day of entering the Inca City, the guardians will use readers to check if this code matches their personal data.
To check the ticket code follow the following instructions:
- Enter the official website http://www.machupicchu.gob.pe/.
- Click on the ‘check-in’ tab
- Locate the ticket code located in the box at the top right.
- In the box ‘Reprints’ click on the ‘Ticket’ button. Then enter the code of the entry in the box.
- Finally, click on ‘PDF’ and check the validity of the Machu Picchu ticket.
b) Check the reservation code:
One person can make a reservation, which can include up to 5 tickets to Machu Picchu. This code can also be verified on the official website of the Ministry of Peru.
To check the reservation code follow the following steps:
- Locate the reservation code of the ticket located below the upper right box On the website, locate the ‘Reservation code’ box and type the corresponding numbers in your entry
- On the website, locate the box ‘Reservation code’ and enter the corresponding numbers in your entry
- Finally, click on ‘search’ and verify the validity of your reservation and the amount of tickets purchased.
2) Verify that the entry type and schedule are correct
Once you have the ticket in your hands, check that the entry type and the time (shift) is the one you chose. To do this, you must review the top center of the ticket.
Ticket Machu Picchu Only
- Morning shift: 6 a.m. to 12 p.m.
- Afternoon shift 12 p.m. a 5.30 p.m.
Ticket Machu Picchu + Huayna Picchu
- Group 1: 7 a.m. a 8 a.m.
- Group 2: 10 a.m. a 11 a.m.
Ticket Machu Picchu + Mountain
- Group 1: 7 a.m. a 8 a.m.
- Group 2: 9 a.m. a 10 a.m.
Ticket Machu Picchu + Museum
- Morning Shift: 6 a.m. a 12 p.m.
- Afternoon shift: 12 p.m. a 5.30 p.m.
3) Verify that your first and last name is correct
The name of the visitor is shown in the upper left part of the entry. It is important that it is correct in each letter. Remember that the day of your visit, you must present the passport or identity document with which you made the reservation. In case the name of the ticket does not match the identity document, they will not allow you access to Machu Picchu.
4) Verify that the type and document number is correct
In the upper left part of your Machu Picchu entrance there is a box that contains the type and number of the document with which you made the reservation. Check that the information entered is correct. Remember that the day of your entry into the Inca City, the type and number of the document must match the passport or identity document with which you made the purchase.
5) Check the date of entry and enjoy the Wonder of the World!
In the left part of the Machu Picchu ticket the entry date appears. Check that the day entered is the one you chose. Remember that the ticket is only valid for the date printed on the ticket. For no reason can you access a day before or after.
If the date, as well as the other data that you chose, are the correct ones, you only have to enjoy the Wonder of the World. The day of your entry you must present the ticket along with the identity document or passport with which you made the reservation.
How to avoid scams when buying tickets to Machu Picchu?
Before reserving the entrance to Machu Picchu it is also possible to verify the validity of an agency or website.
Follow these tips to avoid scams:
- Check that the web page where you book your Machu Picchu tickets has security systems online.
- Check that the agency is authorized by the Ministry of Culture of Peru.
- If you did not get an entry online and you want to get it in Cusco, do not buy tickets already sold on behalf of other people.
- Do not accept to pay strangers who offer to enter Machu Picchu clandestinely or through the main door but illegally.
